The sell-out success investigating the infamous story of The Freshwater Five and the state of our coastal communities.
about the production
Having undertaken an extraordinarily successful ACE-funded R&D the infamous story of The Freshwater Five is setting sail on a tour of coastal communities. The powerful & tragic tale of The Freshwater Five (brought to media prominence last year by The Guardian's 6-part podcast) has been developed for the stage by Deadman. The Freshwater Five is an Isle of Wight story but one that is symbolic of our coastal communities. Created and told by Island and South East/West and migrant creatives, the play delves into our deteriorating coastal communities, uncovering smuggling, immigration and folklore interwoven through this ancient cultural way of life.
about the artist
Deadman is an award-winning Working / Precarious Class-led theatre & film company, dedicated to staging contemporary & captivating local narratives -for and from Britain's unheard/underserved communities. Growing up on the Isle of Wight we have always been interested in trying to represent narratives that are new and engaging and can bring in and engage those who might never get into theatre. As well as providing a career pathway for those who likewise might never get an opportunity. We know the power that the creative arts can have for people, and we want everyone to have access to that benefit.
