WILD ONION

by Orange Skies Theatre

physical-theatre-and-circus, theatre

A narrative cabaret about friendship and growing together; with circus, dance, lip synch and 100 onions.

about the production

WILD ONION is a narrative cabaret, exploring friendship and chosen family, asking ‘how can we grow together’. With an eclectic playlist and approximately 100 onions we tell the stories of 3 best friends in this riotous, compassionate hour. We follow Daisy as she unearths hidden family history, Rach who manages fear by expressing violence towards onions, and Adam who tries to make himself cry (with onions, and a cyr wheel). WILD ONION balances the light and the low, tackling themes of identity and grief with disco classics and big spectacle. A joyously entertaining cabaret with the emotional punch of theatre.

about the artist

Orange Skies is a queer led ensemble working together since 2016. We make performance to make you want to hold the person next to you. Our practice is interdisciplinary, drawing on theatre, dance, live art, circus and cabaret art forms. We always interrogate a central question that has macro and personal resonance. We have toured the UK with ★★★★ (The List, Mumble, EdFringe Review, Norwich Eye) physical theatre show 'In Addition', which was described by Mumble as 'The play Britain needs right now'. We are currently Supported Artists of Norwich Theatre.

Our target audience for this show is queer people between the ages of 18 - 35, arts engaged, frequent comedy, cabaret and drag show attendees. We have also created the show to be as engaging to a wide audience as possible - it’s suitable for ages 11+, uses primarily visual storytelling so is suitable for audiences with English as a second language, and the spectacle of the cyr and acrobatics in the show have high value to experience seeking audiences.

Truly a show that warms the soul and makes you love your friends more than you do already

We offer a touch tour with this show. The show contains loud music, and 1 total black out. The show also has very little dialogue and so is suitable for audiences with English as a second language.

We offer devising theatre workshops for young people, cost per session is £250 for 2.5 hours with 2 session leads. These can take place at the venue, or we are happy to come into schools, community centres and universities to deliver.
