A gentle first adventure into theatre for babies and toddlers - what would you draw on the biggest piece of paper you've ever seen?
about the production
A gently interactive first adventure into theatre for babies and young children. Welcome to the small town of Blank Page – come and meet its two inhabitants! As they explore their paper-y world they take the audience along with them on a scrinchy scrunchy crinkly journey. Developed at Offbeat Festival 2017, and supported by Pegasus, The Paper Moon was created by performer/theatre-maker parents and their babies and toddlers. Due to their age we recommend a cap of 50 ticketed audience members for the show and 2 or 3 shows a day. For ages 0 – 4, touring in 2018/19.
about the artist
Tiny Light is an Oxford based theatre company creating work for babies and children. Our first production, Cat in the Cupboard (for 4-7 year olds, a tale where cats roam large and small girls are very very clever) was developed with the support of Pegasus, Chipping Norton Theatre, The Orange Tree, Barefoot Books and Little Angel. Cat in the Cupboard premiered at Little Angel’s FIRSTS festival in March 2014 and has since toured festivals and rural venues. We also run occasional artist-led creative sessions, Idiots in the Dark, for theatre makers to explore new (or old!) ideas.
stage dimensions
width: 5 metres
height: 3 metres
depth: 4 metres
In theatre or studio spaces The Paper Moon requires simple general cover with no specials. This can be pre-rigged or can be adapted from whatever is already up. We tour with some additional colour to be added. If touring rurally no lighting needed.
Sound requirements:
PA with a CD player or input for a standard stereo phono cable. The music is specially composed for the show and runs as one track through the piece.
Babies, toddlers and their families. Children of all ages with sensory difficulties.
“Our two year olds loved this! We’d love to come again!”
“Warm, lovely introduction to theatre for my little boy”
“Very engaging and enjoyable. Magical and moving – ideal for the age range”
The Paper Moon is very accessible for those with sensory difficulties as it is gently interactive with very little dialogue. We cap the audience at a low figure due to the young age group and also have the house lights on low during the production.
We tour with a craft box with activities for the toddlers that can be set up in the foyer or other similar space if requested. This requires the use of a table, but once set up can be left to run by itself with parental input.
Ideally we aim for £400 flat fee for a two show day or £450 for a three show day. This is negotiable.
