Naming The View

by FINDING THE WILL

comedy, theatre

A life affirming comedy directed by Bryn Holding. Same view, endless horizons. After 30 years of marriage, it takes guts to start again.

about the production

Shakespeare’s comedy The Taming Of The Shrew concludes with a speech by the once feisty Katherine declaring unreserved obedience to her newly married husband. Her character has certainly changed, but is it because of their mutual love and understanding or the bullish controlling ways of her husband? Naming The View is a modern day re-imagining of Katherine after thirty years of marriage. This is a story about recovery and hope after a lifetime of coercive control. We are very happy to run a post-show Q&A session and, if possible, this can include a representative from a local Domestic Abuse Service.

Technical Information
We have minimal set and technical requirements so space is no problem. We do not carry our own lights so if lights are available that would be helpful although not crucial. We can work in the general lights of a Village Hall if necessary. More importantly for ‘Naming The View’ is a sound system – we do carry a small portable sound system but access to something a little more powerful or to an amplifier is an added bonus! Our get-in time is 1 ½ hours.

Post 14 upwards. Male and female. Women's groups. Sixth form students/university students. There is a theme of coercive control/domestic abuse/alcohol related dementia within the play so any support groups would be most welcome .

"Naming The View is riven with humour and hope. A story of rekindled friendship and healing. Touching and funny."
