The Ugly Duckling & Other Tales is a theatrical retelling of Hans Christian Anderson fairy-tales The Ugly Duckling and The Emperor’s New Clothes recreated for children aged between 3-7 and their families. It has been devised by Helen Bovey and George Boundy in collaboration with musician Emily Snee and supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England, Exeter City Council and Kingsteignton Town Council with project partnership from Worboys Productions and the Bike Shed Theatre. Using shadow puppetry, music and comedy, Above Bounds bring this traditional tale to modern audiences, highlighting the theme of body image.

about the artist

Above Bounds are an emerging Theatre Collective who tell stories in a visually exciting way, aiming to educate & inspire with every performance. The collective was formed by Helen Bovey & George Boundy, who graduated from East 15 Acting School in 2013. In 2017, their production of 'The Ugly Duckling & Other Tales' toured 16 venues across the southwest with support from the Bike Shed Theatre, Worboys Productions & Arts Council England. The Production was awarded the encoreinsure.com Brighton Fringe Bursary & nominated for the Balkan/Otherplace Award. In 2015 the company were selected participants of the Worboys Theatre Farm Retreat.

The show has an accompanying shadow puppetry workshop which can last for 1 hour, or 1 hour 30 minutes and is suitable for families and children aged 3+. Workshop costs £220, including materials, and is the perfect accompaniment for the show. Participants will make their own shadow puppet to take home, as well as learning how to use the puppet behind the screen.
