REMOTE by Coney

by Coney

theatre, site-specific-and-immersive

This is a piece of game-theatre that you play sitting down, and its entirely led by you, the audience.

about the production

Imagine you’re in a theatre of the future, powered by an algorithm. REMOTE is an interactive live game interrogating the politics of choice, and decision-making in an immaterial world, saturated with technology. As well as just being yourselves – you are also, together, playing a character, and you’ll be asked to make choices for her. Fusing an interactive script with a live and responsive sound design – REMOTE is a mechanical theatre game. Its 2017, and we’re a room full of mostly strangers, imagining the future.

about the artist

Coney are interactive theatre-makers. We create games, adventures and play where people can choose to take a meaningful part. Our work takes place anywhere that people gather: in theatres, schools, museums, on the streets and online and always follows the principles of adventure, curiosity and loveliness. The experience starts when you first hear about it, and only ends when you stop thinking and talking about it. Coney is a National Portfolio Organisation of Arts Council England and a registered charity.

stage dimensions

width: 6 metres

height: 3 metres

depth: 6 metres

- Gets-in and performs same day.
- Playing space 6 metres x 6 metres (can adjust).
- Can be placed within a studio theatre space but can also exist in a pop-up/temporary location.
- Works to a generic lighting rig.

This is broad as the themes are relevant to everyone, although we are keen to engage gamers and students who may not ordinarily attend theatre events.

Clever and intriguing - interactive fiction exploring small politics, big algorithms and thwarted consensus.

David Ralf, The Stage

This is immersive theatre, but not as you know it… here the entire audience make decisions that will shape the play’s narrative.

Isabelle Aron, Time Out

Theatre like this is important, in fact crucial, in reminding us that our vote can count… It is pertinent and playful; watch it if you want to be engaged.

Georgie Cowan-Turner, The Upcoming

As it is sit-down interactive theatre, Remote is suitable for wheelchair users and those less able to move around.

We are able to design and tailor these to your venue:

- We can place it in your studio space or in a temporary location such as an empty shop unit.

- We can offer workshops such as 'Making Interactive Theatre'; 'Making Play in Public Space' or a consultancy style workshop for venue staff on 'Playful Comms'.

- We can create an online game for audiences pre-show, giving them the opportunity to be referenced in the performance and/or a mobile phone mission based in locations around your venue.

Negotiable depending on venue location and wraparound content required.
