Teddy

by Theatre Bench

theatre, music-and-opera

Desperate times call for rock'n'roll

about the production

Elephant and Castle. 1956. Saturday night. Teddy and Josie are about to hit the streets of London. It’s pissing it down, they’re totally skint, and someone wants them dead – but a little trouble never stopped a Ted from having a good time. Written by emerging British playwright Tristan Bernays, Teddy is a punchy, lyrical ride through the dark, damaged world of 1950s London. Featuring a blistering live performance of Dougal Irvine's electrifying score by Johnny Valentine and The Broken Hearts. Expect sex, violence and damn good hair. Winner: 2016 Off West End Award for Best New Musical

about the artist

Theatre Bench produces original musicals, plays, dance and music, by new and emerging British creatives. Nurturing & encouraging new talent in a variety of disciplines, unbound by subject or genre, Theatre Bench has gone from strength to strength. We produced the world premiere of Craig Adams & Ian Watson’s 'LIFT' at Soho Theatre in February 2013. In 2014 we produced 'Carthage' and 'Thérèse Raquin' at the Finborough Theatre and co-produced acclaimed choreographer Drew McOnie's 'Drunk' at the Bridewell Theatre with the McOnie Company. 'Thérèse Raquin' transferred to the Park Theatre in Finsbury Park later the same year.

Set is quite simple - a large billboard sign on legs, and a small playing stage for the band. No special sound or lighting effects are required. A gun is fired during the performance, but this can be a sound effect if required by the venue.

Will appeal to fans as live music, as the show is essentially a live music gig where a play happens.

AN ABSOLUTE BLAST OF A NIGHT, AN EVENING THAT WILL HAVE YOU JIVING ON YOUR WAY OUT.

Time Out

Punchy, exhilarating musical ride down memory lane brings fresh vitality to a familiar story.

The Stage

It’s a rare and precious thing to spot unmistakable star quality on one of our stages, but that is what this delightful play-with-music offers.
