The Very Important Child

by The Mostly Everything People

physical-theatre-and-circus, dance

Bold physical theatre piece about the human ego: One musician, one dancer. Tantrums.

about the production

THE VERY IMPORTANT CHILD is physical theatre about the human ego. It is a song, then a lecture, then we fall apart. Watch the complicated politics of two adult egos, two grown-ups who are convinced it is the other person’s fault. Dive into the developing mind of a human – the fragile baby living minute to minute, the god-like toddler, the adult who believes herself ‘fully grown’. THE VERY IMPORTANT CHILD is a series of connected dances, it is also just a story about people. Frenzied folk dances, wordless lyrical duets, hilarious observations of adult conversation and uplifting music.

about the artist

The Mostly Everything People produce cutting-edge dance theatre that is both arty and accessible. We make absurd, silly and highly visual work that tends to point out how ridiculous we humans are. It is our concerted goal to create sophisticated work that is accessible to non-dance audiences. We have toured internationally, produced a short film, produced platforms for other artists, and in 2015 were selected for a year's residence as Canada Water Culture Space Emerging Artists.

For hearing-impaired we currently do not have full access capability (such as BSL translation), but due to the visual nature of the piece, we feel it would be enjoyable without understanding the text. We do not have AD for seeing-impaired currently.

We offer a workshop for performing arts students (age 16+) based on our devising practise, to bring to local colleges/groups. This can be between 2 to 8 hours and cost depends on time. We also offer a free post-show discussion to audiences, regarding the subject matter and how they responded to it.

Our basic fee is £600 per day, plus some reasonable travel costs from London. This can be significantly reduced if we can do multiple performance days in one, or multiple venues in an area.
