The Unknown Soldier

by Grist to the Mill Productions

spoken-word-and-live-literature, theatre

After the guns there is the silence...

about the production

Jack stayed on when the guns fells silent, to search the battlefields for the boys that could not go home - for the dead and the missing, for both enemy and friend. And amongst the rusty wire and unexploded bombs Jack is looking for something - looking for someone. A new theatre piece on comradeship, betrayal and of promises both broken and kept following the carnage of WW1.

For Rural Touring, we prefer to use in-house lights and sounds but we are flexible to bring our own - which would require a minimum of three 13amp power points - just let us know and we can discuss details. It would take us around 3 hours to set up and 45min to get-out. A theatre layout and blackout is preferable.

The Unknown Soldier is suitable for audience aged 16+ and over. It will appeal to all who has an interest in history, military subjects and explore the details around the remembrance of WW1. The show contains some loud noises and some swearing.

'If you don’t ever want to see another WW1 play, then you want to see *this*. Superb!'

FringeGuru

‘It’s not about glory or futility, it’s about the loyalty forged between friends’

The Scotsman

‘Strong writing, an original approach and a sensitive performance bring fresh power to a reminder of the horrors of war.’

The Stage

The Unknown Soldier playtext has now been published by Methuen Bloomsbury and will be available for theatres and venues who offer captioned performances. Being a one-man-show, the performance is in a form of a long monologue, accompanied by some poetry and atmospheric sound effects so that anyone with a visual impairment can follow the plot. However the company is also happy to provide material and work with venues to make audio-described performances.

The show is usually round an hour and works best without an interval, so we offer a post-show talk/discussion with writer and performer Ross Ericson with audience members if the venue is interested.

Buy-in: £750 per show, or (£1500 for 4 consecutive bookings) or negotiable BOS: 70%/30% with a guarantee fee.
