Creating raw, expressive and playfully engaging scratch performances inspired by Shakespeare with emerging artists from your community.
about the production
Two Gents Productions' Shakespeare Boot Camp aims to open access to Shakespeare to artists and theatre makers in your community that might not otherwise consider Shakespeare as 'their thing'. Over a week of workshops, masterclasses and free creation time we will work with local theatre makers (drama students, aspiring actors, emerging theatre companies) to create scenes specially selected from Shakespeare's early plays which can then be presented as curtain raisers in conjunction with our touring theatre production, Taming of the Shrew.
about the artist
Two Gents Productions has a significant track record in creating bare-boned, cross-cultural and powerfully expressive adaptations of Shakespeare for small casts. This success has taken us across the Globe (Australia, Germany, Zimbabwe) and led to our fêted participation in the Globe to Globe Festival at Shakespeare's Globe, London in 2012. We believe our approach to Shakespeare is particularly relevant to young, emerging, non-mainstream theatre makers keen to reach a broader audience. Our aim with this project is to share our skill and expertise with a new generation of theatre makers across the UK.

Particularly suited for studio theatre and village halls. Audience on 3 sides or in the round is preferable but end on is also possible. We do not tour our own lights, but simply switching on the lights to ensure that actors and audience are equally visible, is all the lighting required.
This project aims to work with and develop the skills of local theatre makers, drama students (school, university) and aspiring actors. By working with local artists, the show will rely heavily on word of mouth to reach the friends and family of the participating artist. As such it should appeal to audiences that might not normally come to the theatre as well as audiences that appreciated a light-hearted, unconventional approach to Shakespeare.
If festivals should stretch audience and subject alike, Two Gents Productions' snappy two-hander certainly did that. (Taming of the Shrew at York International Shakespeare Festival 2015)
A rollicking, fast-paced bit of storytelling. (on Kupenga Kwa Hamlet)
If you ever get the chance to see a performance by Two Gents Productions, grab that chance.

The Shakespeare Boot Camp is delivered in conjunction with performances of our touring production of Taming of the Shrew (see separate listing for details of that show). It builds on workshops, masterclasses and creation time that will ideally take place at your venue or a nearby rehearsal space. Additional workshops for school, college and university groups can be arranged if desired.
This project ideally forms part of a weeklong residency in your community which will include workshops as well as performances for an all inclusive fee of £2500.
