For Now, I am...

by Marc Brew Company

dance, physical-theatre-and-circus

Exploring a body transformed using dance, visual projections and a haunting sound score.

about the production

For Now, I am... is the second part of Marc Brew’s trilogy (the first, Remember When, short-listed for an Isadora Duncan award). Following his life changing accident, the work explores the journey of getting to know a body, and new ways of performing with it. With an ethereal soundtrack by Claire McCue, featuring cellist Andrew Huggan, striking visual projections by Jamie Wardrop and an exquisite lighting design by Andy Hamer, the work showcases Brew’s unique movement style, and explores themes of what it is to be broken, purified, and to reconcile being in the world in a changed form.

about the artist

The work, created in collaboration with disabled and non-disabled artists, is honest, unsentimental and recognizably human. Since its inception, the company has blazed a trail of high quality work, bringing together exceptional artists and touring across the world.

This work will appeal to Contemporary Dance and Theatre audiences as well as those interested in the politics of the body and disability politics. It also touches people who have had to struggle with adversity as it is a life affirming story.
Marc’s work focuses on real human interest themes which means that there is huge potential for the work to reach an international audience and the work can have a legacy beyond its original intention.

“Mesmerising, phenomenal and haunting are only a small selection of worthy superlatives that can be used to describe Brew’s performance. With faultless and elegant choreography clearly narrating the story of Brew’s changing body, it is evident Brew’s background is in ballet as every move he makes is done so in a flawless and classically beautiful way.”

The Public Reviews

“Marc Brew’s investigation of his damaged body is a profoundly moving and strangely exhilarating experience”

The Stage

"a powerful and fascinating personal story of one man rediscovering his body"

Edinburgh Festival Magazine

The piece has been audio described and for post show discussions we try to have a BSL interpreter to make the work accessible. We are careful that sight-lines are good for wheelchair users. Marc is a wheelchair user. The theatre space and dance studio should be fully wheelchair accessible. Marc will require access to the stage and auditorium in his chair. He would also like access backstage and we usually request that he is provided with a fully accessible dressing room. This should include a disabled toilet either backstage or in the auditorium.

The piece is presented alongside a Q&A session, as we have found that people want to speak with Marc after seeing the work.
Marc runs a series of Masterclasses, choreographic intensives, workshops and residencies. He can also offer teacher training for dancers, professionals and educators and is often asked to attend conventions and conferences. For more information please visit www.marcbrew.com
