Lysistrata

by Actors of Dionysus

physical-theatre-and-circus, theatre

New version of Aristophanes comic masterpiece about war and sexual abstinence, where the women withhold sex to stop their men going to war.

about the production

Following our sell out national tour of Lysistrata in 2010, we're back with a new revised version full of themes which are relevant and piping hot in current affairs. Follow our heroine, Lysistrata, and the women of Greece in their (not always heartfelt!) battle to deny their men sex in order to stop a bloody war. As tensions mount, frustrations erupt, and phalluses reach bursting point see who wins and if peace is restored in this high octane, hugely enjoyable and absurdist version of Aristophanes’ masterpiece.

What's On Stage

"Stand out comedy....Productions like this remind us (Aristophanes was right then and he's right now): our ability to laugh at the pompous is precious, our sexuality is a powerful force for good, and our wars are disasters"
