OFFSATGE is a sensitive and timely exploration of suicide.

about the production

What appears to be light and entertaining, can be dark and lonely behind the curtains. OFFSTAGE takes a look behind the curtain at loneliness and depression in a sensitive and timely exploration of suicide. The production was supported by PAPYRUS and L.A.S In a universe, where theatre is life and life is a dream we find Harley and Pedro. Two performers, doing whatever they can to help each other through their show night after night.  Ephemeral ensemble combines the skilled physicality of the performers, playful stage craft and original music to invite you to a thought provoking look at suicide.

about the artist

Ephemeral Ensemble is an international physical theatre ensemble. Combining the skilled physicality of the performers, playful stage craft and original music, Ephemeral Ensemble strives to create original, sincere and ambitious work that is inspired by human stories. Corporeal mime technique is at the centre of our devising process. We seek harmony on the stage that comes from varied voices from different backgrounds during our process. The ensemble was founded in 2016 by Eyglo Belafonte and Ramon Ayres.

People who have been affected by suicide.
Office for the National Statics declared that 5,965 people died by suicide in 2016. A far bigger number than that has been affected by suicide. People who went through the heartbreak of losing a partner/ex partner, family/extended family, friends/colleagues, clients/patients/costumers to suicide. Also people who have had contemplated suicide.
People who suffer from depression and loneliness. People who English is not their first language, deaf audiences and to people who like physical and visual theatre.

★★★★★"Physical Theatre at its finest. Unmissable!...The hairs on the back of my neck, all the way down my spine and along my arms stood straight up”

Everthing Theatre

“The actors… are a perfect match, complimenting and mirroring physicality with seamless professionalism”

Fringe Review

The performance has a visual narrative that doesn’t rely on words. It welcomes people who English is not their first language. We are very open to discuss ways in which we can make OFFSTAGE accessible to as many people as possible.

We are happy to run a Q&A after the performance to extend the conversation and help people to look for further support should they need it. We would provide relevant leaflets from PAPYRUS.
We could also run Corporeal Mime workshops, a technique that is at the heart at the company, sharing our method of creating our physical work- specially targeting students from local community.
