Bismillah!

by Wound Up Theatre

theatre, comedy

AN ISIS TRAGICOMEDY ABOUT DISENFRANCHISEMENT, SOCIAL ALIENATION, PREJUDICE, RADICALISATION AND THE ROCK BAND QUEEN.

about the production

Dean joined the Army, 'Danny' joined the Islamic State. One’s from Leeds, the other's from London. Fresh from critically acclaimed sell-out runs at the 2018 Vault Festival and transfer to the Pleasance Theatre- and shortlisted for an Amnesty International Freedom of Expression Award at Edinburgh in 2015, Bismillah! is a hilarious, heart-breaking and compassionate contribution to the vital discussion around the experiences of disenfranchised young people in modern Britain.

about the artist

Wound Up Theatre are a critically acclaimed theatre company based between the glorious North and London-town. We discuss seismic issues through hilarious little plays. We facilitate dialogues, start discussions, challenge ideas... And make you laugh like a loon. We're a young small company, who make funny little shows about seismic issues and 2018 is our most exciting year yet So to quote Shakespeare himself in Henry VI, Part 2 just before the First Battle of St Albans: "Let's smash this shit wide open." This show is particularly appealing to a more liberal, politically engaged audience due to its subject matter. Its edgy and confronting themes, especially the disenfranchisement of young British men appeals to a younger, trendier crowd. The subject matter is engaging to the Muslim and veteran community and we have higher than average engagement with these groups.

Bismillah! is one of the best shows I have ever seen at the Fringe or anywhere else.

Broadway Baby

This is a black comedy of the highest order.
