ADA by Emily Holyoake

by Poetical Machines

theatre

Ada, an exciting new production about Ada Lovelace; mathematician and unsung genius, considered to be the first computer programmer.

about the production

Developed with Nottingham Playhouse and Arts Council England the play re-imagines Ada's carefully controlled childhood, her dynamic collaboration with mathematician Charles Babbage and her fraught relationship with her family legacy; while in a modern-day university, a computer scientist unwillingly allows a blogger, Jasper, to meddle in her work with her own Engine - 'Ginny' - an AI who composes music. ADA parallels and intertwines the two stories to explore both the potential of Ada's ideas and the possibilities of artificial intelligence.

about the artist

Poetical Machines are a multi-disciplinary arts organisation founded in January 2015 by composer and sound designer Adam McCready in order to develop innovative creative projects with science, technology and history at their core. Passionately committed to the STEAM movement, Poetical Machines believe science, technology and maths as much a part of the human creative urge as the arts and aim to create inspiring experiences that embrace both worlds.

This show will be accompanied by workshops where we demonstrate how the technologies we use in the show can be made,
coded and imaginatively adapted by almost anyone. The hope is that we can inspire young people, girls especially, to embrace
STEAM projects as the exciting future for technology and creative expression. The STEAM movement is taking Science Technology and Maths subjects (STEM) and adding Art & Design, recognising that these are all part of the human creative urge and experience and not mutually exclusive realms.

£850 fee includes travel and accommodation. Happy to negotiate on this. Workshops cost £100 but include £70 of materials that will remain with the group.
