site-specific-and-immersive, theatre
A play set during one of the most hedonistic, influential and illegal movements in modern music.
about the production
Premiering at this years Vault Festival, Repetitive beats follows 4 friends through the illegal rave scene from it's peak in the second summer of love in 1989 to the introduction of the Criminal Justice Act in 1994. Thatcher's Britain. A disillusioned generation. Acid house, and weekend after weekend of pure ecstasy. This wasn't just parties. This was a revolution. With a live DJ on stage, talks, and after show STAY & RAVES, the potential for this show is endless!
about the artist
The Bees’ Knees up was created after seeing countless theatre shows and parties where children were reluctantly pulled back to their seat to spectate. There is a place for that, obviously, and if children want to simply spectate they can, but we wanted to create something which had the kids up on their feet, being involved with the action, and contributing to and driving the story by helping to solve clues, teaching us a dance move, showing us their best bunny hop, or simply being the wind that powers the boat!

Old ravers, new ravers, illuminati, lovers of a revolution, lovers of new writing
"...well performed and engaging, it encourages you to care about the characters depicted and the choices they make. Maybe Home secretary of 1994 Michael Howard who introduced the Criminal Justice Act was wrong when he claimed that a rave was bad for you."
"intertwining lives veer from shared bliss to heavy comedowns once the euphoria wears off. Reality bites hard causing relationships to be tested and fractured with revelations in relations and state sanctioned subterfuge and sedition all in the mix."
No restrictions
