music-and-opera, theatre
A wild and imaginative gig-theatre retelling of the ancient Greek tragedy, set in the 1980's.
about the production
A wild gig-theatre retelling of the savage Greek Tragedy. With the discovery of her husband's deceit and betrayal, Medea is driven to embark on a journey of savage revenge and destruction. This intense drama plays out amidst the brilliant chaos of a live gig; an all original mash up of contemporary, cinematic soundscapes and 1980’s Electronica. On stage, two musicians thrash out Medea’s inner dialogue, as she wrestles with her demons. The other characters are heard but not seen, creating a ghostly and unsettling atmosphere.
about the artist
Pecho Mama was born in 2016, with the aim of creating work that tramples the boundaries between live music and theatre. The name Pecho Mama pays homage to the words of Clarissa Pinkola Estes. "Hombre con pechos. These human beings could be called little wild mothers, the ones who reattach you to the wildest instincts, rejoicing when they see you coming back with the fiery skull held out before you". Medea Electronica is the company's first work, and by tirelessly goading each other (as little wild mothers do), we strive to create work that is raw, savage, beautiful and challenging.
