Treading Water

by Manic Chord Theatre

dance, theatre

Treading Water is an explosive and highly current story of a young female swimmer battling with gender stereotypes in sport and the media.

about the production

Treading Water begins in the aftermath of the world championships. Our swimmer has just broken records and conquered her craft. We follow her story and how she and her family deal with the added pressure and media attention exploring exploring the medias influence over the public.Treading Water first received a seed commission from the West Yorkshire Playhouse through the Furnace Supported Artists Scheme in 2014. Since then has been supported by Arts Council England, Cast, and stage@leeds for preview sharings in late 2015. Alongside these sharings we curated a series of lectures and discussions on the subject matter.

about the artist

Manic Chord was formed in 2013 by Alex Monk, David Cartwright and Sam Berrill. Our unique ensemble practice blends strong visuals with lyrical storytelling, playful humour and a keen engagement with our social and political surroundings.
