When We Are Married

by Northern Broadsides Theatre Co

theatre, comedy

J B Priestley’s heartily entertaining classic comedy plays right into the hands of Northern Broadsides

about the production

Cleckleywyke, a town in the West Riding, 1908. The Helliwells, the Parkers and the Soppitts are highly respected pillars of their community … but not for much longer. Married on the same day in the same chapel, they gather to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary. The celebrations are short lived when they discover the vicar wasn’t licensed and they are actually not married. In fact, they have been living in sin for 25 years.

about the artist

Northern Broadsides is an artist-led touring drama company based at Dean Clough, Halifax and founded in 1992. Over 24 years achievement through 70+ productions, the staging of classical plays with large casts have been the main creative drive. We regularly perform in different shaped spaces and theatres, often changing weekly – in-the-round, thrust, proscenium, arena – adapting scenery, lighting and presentational values to suit.

Non-specific. When We Are Married will appeal to attenders of premium classic and mainstream drama/comedy

“its abundant charm lies in the twinkling charm of all nine actors” "The famous scene where he brings a four-course meal to the two of them, in separate rooms but at the same time, usually done as a hectic race, is more ingeniously played here as a miracle of timing with swing doors." (The Man With Two Gaffers)
