about the production
Maurice Maeterlinck's symbolist fairyplay is reimagined for a scaled-back production that uses a small cast, live music and puppetry to create all the magic and mystery of a young child's journey into strange, dangerous worlds.

This production is suitable for families with children aged 5+. The hero is a young boy and the themes of the play - happiness, perception and facing fears - are explored as he ventures through worlds that are magical, surprising and a little scary. With a cast of actors, live music, puppetry and, of course, Maeterlinck's surreal and funny dialogue, the show will challenge audience members of all ages to question how they look at the world.
“…Emma Faulkner’s production has an authentic documentary feel and is totally involving. What the West End needs is a small theatre to which fringe productions of this calibre can transfer.”
“St John Ervine's powerful 1915 classic, now receiving its first English revival since 1920 in Emma Faulkner's strongly cast, atmospheric production.”
Our production of The Blue Bird is suitable for audiences with access requirements, however it does contain dialogue which would require captioning to be fully enjoyed by those with hearing impairment.
We can offer creative workshops based on the play's themes of perception, happiness and overcoming fears.
